Nose Work
Nose work is the best known of the “sniff” sports. In all nose work venues, dogs seek odors like anise, birch or clove that are hidden in boxes, inside buildings, on vehicles or under sand or water. There are three nose work sanctioning organizations:
The American Kennel Club (AKC), Canine Performance Events (CPE-CSS) and the National Association of Canine Scent Work (NACSW). There a trials in these venues throughout California and northern Nevada.
Classes Offered
BEGINNING NOSE WORK:
This class is for dogs that are new to the sport and need to learn basic hunting skills and scent discrimination. Handlers learn how to read their dog’s body postures and how to know when the dog has located the scent. Dogs work at their own pace and level. Rules from the organizations are discussed. The class is open to dogs of any age. Class Fees: $25/class Paid monthly.
INTERMEDIATE NOSE WORK:
This class is for dog-handler teams that have basic hunting skills, have started on odor and need to strengthen hunting skills as they prepare to compete in one of the sanctioning organizations. For teams preparing to take the NACSW Odor Recognition Test (ORT) practice in all odors will help them be successful. The class is open to dogs of any age. Class Fees: $25/class Paid monthly.
ADVANCED NOSE WORK:
This class is for the dog handler teams who are ready to compete or are already competing. Class is highly individualized and focuses on more difficult hides, elevated hides, and blind hides while searching in all six elements: container, interior, exterior, vehicles, buried and water. Class Fees: $25/class/number of classes/month. Paid monthly.
SEMI-PRIVATE INSTRUCTION
We offer semi-private instruction for groups up to four dogs at a time a date that is convenient for you. All Semi-Private Instruction is in one-hour increments. Enroll for the instruction and a trainer will contact you directly to set a date and time. All attendees must register for the class separately. Class Fee: $100 minimum
